Tree Damaging Insects

It is important to know that healthy trees can tolerate light insect feeding (with the exception of emerald ash borer).  Treatments are usually only needed when heavy insect feeding occurs, feeding happens year after year or the tree is already under some form of stress.  At Tree Health Services LLC we offer treatments for all types of tree damaging insects.  The pests listed below are a few of the more common insects that damage trees in Wisconsin.

Emerald ash borer

Emerald ash borer is a highly destructive insect that kills ash trees (fraxinus spp.).  If you have an ash tree and want to save it from EAB, it needs to be treated.  We offer preventative and curative treatments to help control this serious pest.

Japanese beetle

Japanese beetles feed on the leaves of trees and shrubs (along with other plants) in summer.  Heavy leaf loss from Japanese beetle feeding weakens trees because they are not able to produce as much energy through photosythesis.  We offer multiple treatment options to control this pest.

Scale

There are many kinds of scale insects in Wisconsin.  One thing they all have in common is that they weaken trees and shrubs by sucking nutrients from leaves and stems.  Heavy infestations can cause branch dieback and potentially kill trees.  We offer treatment options for all types of scale.

Spongy (Gypsy) moth

The larvae, or caterpillar, stage of spongy moth feeds mostly on the leaves of hardwood trees.  However, severe damage can occur when spongy moth feeds heavily on conifers.  Severe outbreaks can usually be controlled with our foliar sprays.  If heavy feeding happens year after year our preventative treatments may be warranted.
